Meet the Designer

Heidi Ramseur Lee

Heidi Ramseur Lee is the Art Director for Ensemble Innovations. As the wife of a North Carolina Band Director Heidi understands the needs of our clients and strives to make each design as unique as possible. As a classically trained fine artist, Heidi treats every work of art she creates with the same attention to detail, whether it be on the computer screen or on a canvas. Heidi has designed for countless high school and college/university marching bands, as well as Drum Corps International, Winter Guard International, and Bands of America groups all over the country.

A graduate of Pfeiffer University, Heidi earned Bachelor’s Degrees in both Fine Art and Communication Studies. Heidi resides in Concord, NC with her husband Keith and daughter Liza Jane.

Heidi Ramseur Lee, Art Director at Ensemble Innovations, described this is a great project to work on, saying that the ideas from the corps allowed her to use her imagination in new ways. "It was super out of the box! The things they were wanting were definitely uncoventional and they gave a good amount of free reign for us to collaborate. We got to use many different materials and patterns and come up with completely custom and original designs."

Trooper's Program Coordinator, Tim Snyder provided Heidi and our team with a variety of ideas based on the the concept that the corps had "lassoed the sun" last season and were continuing on to dance with the devil this year, which required a a certain gritty and weathered look. Watch our interview with Tim (above) to learn more.

The drawings you see here are versions that Heidi designed, which evolved as different materials were considered, construction techniques were explored, and as the show design itself developed. For example, the red ties on the corps costume were originally designed as a 2D part of the material, but were changed to give more texture, the ability to transform the look, and to provide additional shine. The corps' scarf was also modified to the weathered yellow as an homage to the iconic Trooper's yellow scarf.

Heidi shared that "The challenge of making the printed products look like actual weathered leather, like they have been to hell and back, with a multitude of textures was super exciting. For me as a graphic artist, I really feel we achieved that goal of a "gritty" look."

Heidi is a fan as well as the designer, exclaiming "I am a huge Troopers fan! It was really exciting to end this trilogy with my very own designs. This is definitely a career highlight and I can't wait to see it on the field!"

TroopCon 2024

TroopCon was more than just a premiere show for the Troopers. It was a chance to share the hard work of the 2024 drum corps with the alumni, fans, and community of Casper, Wyoming. We had a great time experiencing the Trooper's Legacy in Casper and witnessing their 2024 premiere in the first Ensemble Innovations uniforms made for a DCI corps!

Thanks to the Troopers for trusting us with their modern, but iconic look, and for inviting us to TroopCon!
